Life as a dutiful JW, week after week after week after...
christians look to jesus as the redeeemer of mankind.. jw's look to jesus as the executioner of mankind!.
i guess it would depend for me.
some of my family i would take out bill boards pointing to them.
many of the elders it would be he is over there and set off a neon sign.
How do you turn in someone who is dead to you?
christians look to jesus as the redeeemer of mankind.. jw's look to jesus as the executioner of mankind!.
@jws: "But do they believe Jesus was our redeemer. Yes. They believe in the new testament. They are Christians."
Redeemer for who? The anointed, only. In Watchtower terms, the literal 144,000. The rest of the Witnesses are not part of this New Covenant with Christ as their redeemer. And the Bible is not uncertain to what happens to those outside of this covenant. "There is no hope". Check out Ephesians 2:12.
As for Witnesses believing in the New Testament, they believe it's written only for 144,000 people. All of the hope offered to Christians, such as Romans 4:5, Romans 5:1, Romans 3, Romans 10 and especially Ephesians 2:8,9 which says "By this underserved kindness you have been saved through faith... No, it is not the result of works..." is openly withheld from regular Witnesses who must earn their salvation through works (consider the Kingdom Ministry of June 2012 which cites one of the reasons for preaching is to "ensure your own salvation").
Curiously, Watchtower picks and chooses which verses within the New Testament to apply to the two classes of Witnesses. A verse like John 3:3 where Jesus tells Nicodemus that unless "anyone is born again", he won't be able to see the kingdom of God. This is for the 144,000 only. Yet, thirteen verses later, the "for God loved the world so much that he gave..." scripture is applied for all Witnesses. And there are NO distinctions between the verses of who Jesus is addressing.
There is no questioning that Watchtower is not Christian and is, in fact, antichrist. Anti in Greek doesn't alway mean "against", but it can also mean "instead of". The Organization acts INSTEAD of Christ for those attempting to be Christian. @Jerryh did a great analysis of this in a comment on @ConcernedParent's thread recently. They wrote:
"Anti in English means opposed or against but here is ἀντὶ in the New Testament.
ὀφθαλμὸν ἀντὶ ὀφθαλμοῦ καὶ ὀδόντα ἀντὶ ὀδόντος.
(Mat 5:38) eye for eye and tooth for tooth
ἀντὶ τοῦ λέγειν ὑμᾶς
(Jam 4:15) Instead you ought to say
ἀντὶ in the NT often means substitute and that is what the GB claims for themselves, alternative mediators between God and humanity. Jesus is their mediator and they are the mediator for the rest of us."
my mother was not the most emotionally stable person.
she was a follower and instilled in me the idea we were better than those worldly people.
its hard to go to school as a child and you can not be friends outside of school, you can not celebrate any holidays, and you are told all these people are going to die.
@dubstepped: "...they had many, MANY chances to choose to rise up and do good things and they didn't."
That's probably the source of my anger. They've been shown the ugly truth about Watchtower through me. I've mercilessly stated my position for leaving the organization until I was blue in the face. I even discovered a copy of Crisis of Conscience in my father's library when making a clandestine visit to the house one night as they were at the meeting. The damn man KNOWS why it's a cult, has the evidence and he's STILL IN. I can never respect that. In fact, it angers me. I want nothing to do with this kind of disingenuous lack of accountability.
so here in the uk this video is getting jws very excited.
now my mum actualy said it wa funny to hear jw music at the start and finish.
so i'm wondering if the watchtower had any input into this.
I think it's great that Jehovah's Witnesses are finding videos to watch about their faith on YouTube. *cue the list of related/recommended videos*
i think my last post i said i went to a new congregation,i'm going to just talk about some of the shit i have seen in my congregation.. there was a kid trying to talk to a adult next to him i think it was his dad,the kid just started taping him because he wanted to tell him something and the dad gets mad then boom the kid gets elbowed.i look around to see if anyone saw him do that to his kid and nope or they didn't want to say anything about it and just like wtf.. in my old congregation, the younger kids would do random stuff in the middle of the meeting to not get board.
when the mom or dad got mad i would see then get dragged to the back of the kingdom hall and hear them start crying.when i was still mentally in i just didnt think about it at all when it would happen but when i woke up im just like thats fucked up..
Taste my pain, @stuckinarut2. The man is a hardass. At 19 when he was still delivering blows to my face, my mother had to negotiate with him to find new ways to discipline me since I was an adult. And that came after much pleading and appealing to her. For Geoffrey Jackson to flat out lie about corporal punishment within the organization was just another slap in the face.
Thanks, @john.prestor. I appreciate that. I know it's ridiculous to vicariously punish other children through me - but hey, "shame and domination" is the name of the game.
with much amusement i read the thread on women parking lot attendants and it got me to thinking about life at home for the average jw.. i believe i am correct in thinking that anything to do with jw-ism requires a penis, except all the leg work (fs & pioneers).
meaning the mic's, talks, etc... but yet the same guy who thinks his wife (or any other woman) is not bright enough to run the sound system for example doesn't mind his wife hauling hay, digging in the yard, managing the checkbook and other various physical jobs as well as jobs that do in fact require a brain larger than that of a gnat?.
let's say a guy is a bit technologically challenged but he can manage the sound system at the kh ok. i imagine he feels proud that he is getting to do this great privilege?
Oops, sorry brother @stuckinarut2. I've just reached for the nearest used serviette and plopped it on my head now. I hope Jehovah can find humility in this as the barbecue sauce trickles down my forehead.

@blownaway Guns blazing. A year later, that barrel is still smoking because I got another email from my parents just this morning telling me how much they want to see my son and I and that we can leave the past in the past.

looking back on my two decades as a jehovah’s witness, i’ve come to realize how the constant theme of endurance is playing a detrimental role on the individual's psyche.. jehovah’s witnesses have become far too good at keeping going.
they’re experts at surrendering to the demands of the watchtower, living up to what’s expected of them, and getting on with the priorities that those in power have defined and imposed upon them.
they keep showing up, presenting themselves a dutiful pioneer or ministerial servant.
@Stuck in the middle37 You're so welcome! I'm glad it resonated with you. Really appreciate your input :).
